In a time of so much industry consolidation, House of How is proud to be fully independent. We are based out of Bothell, Washington with remote game-makers all over the USA. We have a satellite studio in Boden, Sweden and are also now expanding our remote workforce in British Columbia, Canada.

Starting out as colleagues at Microsoft Games, our leads worked with each other for years before setting out on a new adventure together. From humble beginnings, we grew slowly and carefully to ensure we could control our own destiny. We are now at ~50 people and growing rapidly as our industry reputation is bringing more and more projects to the studio. Responsibilities

  • Develop gameplay, tools, systems, and fix bugs.
  • Work with design and art teams to create gameplay systems that define player experience.
  • Integrate effects, art, sound, and animation with a good eye for feel and timing.
  • Be able to interpret game design documentation and realize the vision as a gameplay system.
  • Participate in all aspects of game development, including planning, design, implementation, documentation and maintenance.
  • Help structure feature architecture, plus implement those features, particularly those related to making the game feel great.
  • Follow coding standards, writing clean code with a constant eye on performance.
  • Prototype and iterate on ideas with designers on the team to fail fast and find the fun.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Contribute to UI development, as well as integration of art and audio.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional development related experience.
  • Experience in game development or similar realtime rendering environments.
  • Experience with developing products from concept to completion.
  • Experience in working with others across multiple disciplines. Technical and non-technical.
  • Comfortable in one or more of the following: C#, C++, JavaScript, Typescript, HTML5/CSS.
  • Comfort in source control systems such as Git or SVN.
  • Written and Spoken English Fluency.
  • Cleared to work and located in the United States, Canada, or Sweden.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience specifically in JavaScript game development.
  • Experience in related root libraries such as anime.js/three.js etc.
  • (Note, the javascript bonus qualifications are absolutely not required or even part of the job necessarily, but we do have some internal teams using that tech so passing knowledge is helpful)
